What Monash requires

PermitVehicle Crossing Permit
Suburbs we coverOakleigh · Oakleigh South · Hughesdale · Chadstone · Clayton · Mount Waverley · Glen Waverley · Wheelers Hill · Mulgrave · Ashwood
Requirements
  • Permit required even when the crossing is on an issued building or planning permit — it's never automatic.
  • The works manager's public liability insurance certificate must be supplied before the permit is issued; a traffic management plan may be required.
  • Pre-pour inspection after excavation, before any concrete (booked by 2pm the day before, weekday mornings), plus a follow-up inspection about a month later before the security deposit is released.
  • Built to Monash's Specification for the Construction of Concrete Vehicular Crossings: one crossing per property, minimum 9 m from corners, 4 m from street-tree bases.
  • A refundable security deposit applies on top of fees; arterial roads also need Department of Transport authorisation.
Council feesApplication about $136 plus permit fee $151–$383 on local roads (more on arterials), plus a refundable security deposit.
Worth knowingMonash caps crossings at 3.5 m and forces crossings within 2.4 m of a neighbour's into a shared double — the siting rules catch people out more than the paperwork.
