Requirements
  • Permit required under the Community Amenity Local Law for any temporary or permanent crossing — applied online, allow at least 15 business days.
  • Contractor must hold minimum $20 million public liability insurance.
  • Two inspections: pre-pour by a council asset inspection officer, then a final inspection before the $2,000 bond is refunded.
  • Built to council's crossover construction specifications: max 3 m wide plus splays for a single residence, with set clearances from street trees, pits and poles.
  • Applications are assessed for loss of on-street parking and pedestrian safety — street-tree removal, if approved at all, carries a replacement charge.
Council feesPermanent crossing: $320 application + $225 permit + $2,000 refundable bond. Temporary: $200 application (as published July 2026).
Worth knowingPort Phillip holds a $2,000 bond until the final inspection clears — leaving the site clean and undamaged is literally money in the bank here.
